ATTENTION MEMBERS PLANNING TO HUNT IN ANOTHER STATE
PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR GUIDE AND/OR OUTFITTER FOR THEIR STATE’S REQUIREMENTS FOR OUT-OF-STATE HUNTERS.
MOST STATES REQUIRE THAT EACH HUNTER HAVE, AND PROVIDE THEIR “HUNTER EDUCATION CERTIFICATE” AT THE TIME YOU PURCHASE YOUR HUNTING LICENSE.
CAN YOU FIND YOUR CERTIFICATE? DO YOU NEED A NEW ONE?
YOU HAVE A FEW OPTIONS HERE IN NEW YORK STATE:
1. LOCATE YOUR CERTIFCATE, OR
2. ENROLL IN A SCHEDULED 2018 NYS HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE, OR
3. COMPLETE AN ON-LINE COURSE, WHICH YOUR DESTINATION STATE WILL ACCEPT.

One of the unsung activities we offer here at Guan Ho Ha is the Hunter Education Courses, held at the Club yearly. I have been teaching these courses, along with an excellent team of instructors. Each year we schedule, both gun and bow courses to satisfy the needs of the members and public.
We usually schedule one gun course in the Spring, just prior to the early Youth Turkey Weekend, and the Spring Turkey Season. This year we have scheduled a gun course in March, and another in April. Both courses filled very quickly. I was Lead Instructor for the March Gun Course, and Al Miller is the Lead Instructor for the April Gun Course. Unfortunately, as I write this Al’s course is completely filled.
We have additional Gun Courses scheduled for July, Jan Herdman will be the Lead Instructor (518 370-0971), and September. Butch Slater, 518 372-9454, will be the Lead Instructor. In addition to these courses, we will be holding a Bow Course, on August 4th. Rob Mergen, 518 369-5264, will be the Lead Instructor. This is our schedule for 2018.
If you are interested, in any of these courses, I would encourage you to contact these instructors to find out the dates, times and requirements.
For 2018, DEC is REQUIRING ALL STUDENTS TO COMPLETE A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT PRIOR TO TAKING EACH COURSE. The completed homework assignment is your admittance into the course. I would encourage you to contact the respective instructors for their directions.
We just completed our first course on March 10th. We had 29 students complete the course. A parent took some pictures of the course, and I thought I would share them with you.
If you haven’t been to a Gun, or Bow Course in a while, I would encourage you to come visit one of our courses. Come sit in, or better yet sign up and take the course and share your experience with us, instructors and students. We would love to have you attend.
